Utter dogshite of a movie, what have i just watched??? Swerve at all costs!!!

Ryan Gosling needs a new agent! If he picks another project this bad, he won't have any career left. I see virtually everything that comes out and this has to be one of the worst films I've seen in years!!!!!

These are good descriptions for this movie. Very different from what most people are used to and most probably wont get it. The Refn style wonderful coloring and lighting return in full force here which add to the other worldly mood that takes you away. A dark tale with dark actions which all stay with the Refn style we have come to love. Not earth shattering good like "Drive" but enough of that style to be good. The music is slightly more subtle than I'd like it to be but it still shines in places.

Ok, first, forget all the negative critic reviews. BUT, this is one dark, weird, lurid, violent, bloody, erotic, sexual, over the top tale of redemption & revenge and of a dysfunctional family. As previous reviewer stated, this movie is not for everyone. But after all the bad reviews, being a RG fanboy, had to see it for myself and would rate it as one of the best films i've seen so far this year. No, its not your typical Hollywood and happy ending tale. You can get that anytime, actually gets old. The team of Refn & Gosling, do it again. And Kristin Scott Thomas was amazing in her role as the seriously sicko mother. Cinematography and lighting were amazing. So for those truly into the art of film / filmmaking and exploring a director's/writer's vision, GO, if nothing else, it's quite a ride. A very dark one at that. And where in the hell did that sword always come from!? lol

It trys to be deep and artsy. Well, if you want to see people move at a snails pace and slice and dice at nearly every turn, go see it. Ryan Gosling is pathetic in this nothing of a movie. He's a talented actor but this garbage will not advance his career one iota. He must have done it for the money. The story is really convoluted and almost impossible to follow. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!
